Teachers Give Teachers

With so much changing in education, and new tools being designed faster than I can learn about them, the existence of a sharing community for teachers is invaluable.
Working in a very small school district has often left me feeling isolated from the larger education community. I think this may be true of teachers in any size district, as we are working in self-contained classrooms and have few opportunities to connect with like-minded educators outside of our four walls.

When I first began to reach out to other teachers on Twitter I was somewhat hesitant to share, thinking that I had nothing of value to offer. The
Teachers Give Teachers community has not only been a wealth of resources for me, but has also shown me that I do have something of value to contribute. It has been a source of feedback on lesson design/quality, a space to reach out to others when I encounter a problem, and most importantly a community that encourages and motivates me to create and share with others. With so much changing in education, and new tools being designed faster than I can learn about them, the existence of a sharing community
for teachers is incredibly helpful.
Embrace the Remix
Nothing is original, says Kirby Ferguson, creator of Everything is a Remix. From Bob Dylan to Steve Jobs, he says our most celebrated creators borrow, steal and transform.

Another benefit to being a part of a sharing community like teachers give teachers is the remix. I love when someone uses one of my lessons and completely changes it and then they share it with me. It is great to see how other teachers use and even expand on my ideas. I get new ideas for other lessons based on what someone else did with my lesson and my own creativity grows.

So I ask you, why are you not sharing your lessons?

Why are you still here? You don't like free stuff?

Thanks for sharing Heather! I have truly enjoyed seeing the HyperDocs that you and many others creators share on Teacher Give Teachers. The site and sharing community has opened my eyes to many new ideas! Being a teacher is more than just teaching the students in your classroom, we teach each other too! There is no need to feel like our work is isolating in any way, there are many people willing and able to help out. #bettertogether
